Rural Communities Need Midwives!!
May 13, 2021Most rural birthing parents have to drive more than a half hour to reach the nearest hospital with maternity services.
And that's if you have access to reliable transportation and flexible working hours! That's not a given in rural areas.
Living in a rural community shouldn't mean losing access to essential care for you and your baby. Seems reasonable, right?
That's where midwives come in.
Rural communities across the United States are often called to adapt to their locale and utilize the resources that they have on hand. In the case of accessible, empowering, effective maternity care, Birth workers and Midwives are that resource.
Birth is a natural, normal processes through which people have brought babies into the world for hundreds of years. So the lack of hospitals in rural communities doesn't have to be a dealbreaker for loving, supporting, expert maternity care. Midwives for Out of Hospital births bring that care.
